The Power of Showing Up

Building Cultures of Belonging & Inclusion

We are living through a time in which the safety and dignity of many historically marginalized communities are coming under increased attack. Jewish values and history make it clear: we are called upon to show up for, care for, and defend the safety of the full diversity of our community members.

In March and April 2025, SRE Network and our incredible partners held a 3-part spring learning series that explored how we build communities of safety for LGBTQ+ folks, Jews of Color, and for all women and the diverse identities they hold.

*We define women as those who self-identify as such, including those who have nonbinary, transgender, and cisgender identities.

SRE Network is deeply committed to supporting the dignity and belonging of all individuals across our diverse Jewish community. This includes our radical acceptance of LGBTQ+ folks, Jews of Color, and Jews of all abilities, backgrounds, races, ethnicities, and sexual and gender identities.

Session 1: Showing Up for Our Trans & LGBTQ+ Community Members

This program has passed. It was held on Tuesday, March 18.

With mounting threats to trans and LBGTQ+ rights in the U.S., Jewish organizations can play an active role in affirming, protecting, and advocating for our trans and queer community members. From ensuring safe and respectful organizational workplaces, to speaking out clearly for trans and LGBQ+ rights, all of our communities can make a difference. During this program, we learned from our partners at Keshet about what it means to show up boldly for trans and queer communities in this shifting landscape.

Session 3: Centering Gender Equity

This program has passed. It was held on Wednesday, April 30.

Right now, we are witnessing the frightening erosion of women’s rights across multiple fronts – from reproductive healthcare access to workplace protections and family policies. It has never been more urgent for Jewish workplaces to center gender equity across their policies, procedures, and culture to ensure women can thrive. This program centered around the current state of gender equity under the new administration, what’s at stake, and the tangible steps we can take to build safer, more equitable workplaces and communities.
