Rachel's Reflections: A Message from Our Executive Director

February 2025

inclusion statement

Wednesday, February 19, 2025 – I know these weeks, and months, have not been easy. Many of us are swirling with all that is happening around us this week, at home and abroad.

But amidst it all, here is what I know to be true: safety, respect, and equity must be the guiding principles that define us as Jewish professionals, and the foundation upon which we build a more just, thriving Jewish future.

Guided by our core value of b'tzelem Elohim—the idea that we are all sacred—SRE Network is deeply committed to supporting the dignity and belonging of all individuals across our diverse Jewish community. This includes our radical acceptance of LGBTQ+ folks, Jews of Color, and Jews of all abilities, backgrounds, races, ethnicities, and sexual and gender identities.

This moment is not about policies or politics, this is about the ethical foundation that sustains us. It’s about saying—out loud and often—that the diversity of our Jewish community is what makes us strong. It’s about celebrating the extraordinary culture work being done by our partners to promote workplace belonging so that everyone can thrive. Several SRE member organizations explained this beautifully in their letter on Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, and we are proud to stand by them in reaffirming these principles.

This month, we are also celebrating Black History and Futures Month. At a time in our country and world marked by division and uncertainty, this month serves as a powerful reminder to honor the achievements and resiliency of Black Americans throughout history. It also calls on us to redouble our efforts in building a more equitable, just, and inclusive future for all.

SRE will continue to be a safe space for organizations and individuals to find resources, events, and tools to help them create workplaces where those of all genders, identities, and backgrounds can thrive.

We stand together, united in our shared values, on our journey toward a Jewish communal landscape where everyone is welcome.
